Both Non-Wing and Winged Sprints Are at Gas City This Friday

Do you prefer sprint cars with or without wings?

People are usually pretty vocal on their preference. But no matter what your answer is, Gas City I-69 Speedway has you covered. Both types of sprint cars will be in action at the Grant County quarter-mile oval this Friday night.

The Gas City non-wing 410 sprint cars will compete in a full program, as will the winged 305 sprint cars of the Schaffer’s Oil Indiana RaceSaver series in the fourth annual Jack and Jiggs Classic. The event honors track owner Jack Himelick and former promoter Jiggs Thomason.

Maybe you like modifieds better? Yes, the ground-pounding modifieds will be at Gas City I-69 Speedway this Friday too.

Or maybe you prefer stock cars? Two classes of them — street stocks and hornets — are included in Friday’s huge five-card show too.

There have been four different winners of the non-wing sprint car feature in as many races held so far this year at Gas City. They are Thomas Meseraull of Waveland, Ind.; Brady Bacon of Winchester, Ind.; Scotty Weir of Marion, Ind., and Kevin Thomas Jr. of Cullman, Ala.

The modified action has been too tough to call too. There have been three different winners in the three features so far this year: Bub Roberts of Warren, Ind.; Dillon Nusbaum of Warsaw, Ind., and defending track champion Derek Losh of Rensselaer, Ind.

The same holds true of the street stock division. Will Mike Fincher of Rochester, Ind.; Ervin Turner of Marion, Ind., or Lee Jobbs of Mitchell, Ind., repeat, or will someone else be in front when the checkered drops?

As far as the hornets go, the question there is will anyone be able to beat James Headley Jr. of Wabash, Ind.? He’s ruled that class so far this year, with three feature victories in as many races. Or will he get another victory on Friday night, much to the delight of his huge fan base?

The pit gate opens at 3 p.m. and the grandstands at 5 p.m. Hot laps are at 6:30 p.m. and the racing starts at 7:30 p.m.

An adult general admission ticket only costs $15, and kids 12 and under are free! A pit pass costs $30.

Gas City I-69 Speedway is located on State Road 22, approximately a half-mile west of I-69, exit 259. It is about halfway between Indianapolis and Fort Wayne, and attracts drivers and fans from all over the Midwest.
