SEPTEMBER 1ST – LAWRENCEBURG SPEEDWAY – FAMILY NIGHT AT THE RACES
The Lawrenceburg Speedway in Lawrenceburg, Ind., will be back in action on Saturday, September 1st with “Family Night at the Races” and all kids age twelve and under receive FREE general admission!
A jam-packed night of racing is on tap with sprint cars, modifieds, pure stocks, hornets and even a school bus race on the 3/8th-mile oval. At the end of practice, the Bessler’s U Pull & Save Hornets will take to the track to run last weekend’s rain-postponed Hornet Nationals. The lineup has already been set and Kenny Higbie and Gary Hume will lead the field to the green flag. After twenty laps the first Lawrenceburg Speedway Hornet National Champion will be crowned and presented with a $1,500 winner’s check.
Following the Hornet Nationals, regular racing will resume with heat races for the Kelsey Chevrolet Sprints, Budweiser UMP Modifieds, Impact Sports Pure Stocks and the Bessler’s U Pull & Save Hornets. After all the heats have been run the School Bus feature will take to the track with the Bat Bus (Josh Ballew) and the Shark Bus (Josh Shaw) starting on the front row. The fifteen-bus field is the largest ever at The Burg, and also includes the Big Red Express, Shark Hunter, Family Truckster and the Barbie Bus.
Following the School Bus race will be B Mains (if needed) and features. With only one point race remaining after Saturday several drivers will be looking to improve or solidify their place in the season standings with a good showing in their feature.
Garrett Abrams leads the Kelsey Chevrolet Sprint standings by 95-points over 2003 track champion Dickie Gaines. Abrams, a feature winner on May 12th, has had a very consistent season finishing in the top-five 66% of the time and no worse than eighth in the nine features run this year.
The closest point battle is in the Budweiser UMP Modifieds where Kyle Schornick holds a slim 15-point lead over 2015 track champion Matt Hamilton. Hamilton won the feature Saturday, making the trip to Budweiser Victory Lane for the fifth time this season. Schornick finished second but failed to go to the scales after the race and was forced to forfeit his runner-up position and the 140 points that go along with it.
Two-time and defending track champion Don Grace holds the top spot in the Impact Sports Pure Stocks. Grace has a 170-point cushion over Danny Eichler, who was the Lawrenceburg Speedway Late Model track champion thirty years ago. Grace has finished in the top four of all eight features so far this season and has two wins, including the most recent pure stock race on August 18th.
Of all the point leaders, Cordell Moore has the biggest cushion, a 280-point advantage over Bradley Eberhart in the Bessler’s U Pull & Save Hornets. Moore, the defending track champion, has four feature wins to Eberhart’s two. With two features being run Saturday that all could change as a crash or mechanical failure in the Hornet Nationals could adversely affect their ability to compete in the regular portion of the show.
On Saturday afternoon the pit gate will open at 4:00 pm, general admission gates at 5:00 pm, and practice is scheduled for 6:00 pm. Adult general admission is $15, children 12 and under are free. Pit passes are $30 for all ages.
