Bryan Clauson will again attempt to make his first NASCAR Sprint Cup race this weekend at Atlanta. Here is a link to Bryan's website with a pic of the car. :thumb

So? Is it really a good idea to put these inexperienced rookie kids in the middle of the final races of "the chase" where they could easily create an adverse effect on the championship? Wouldn't it be a much better plan for nascar put these "eightballs" in the first five races of the year, following the Daytona 500, for the rookie testing and evaluation where their potential effect on the championship would be minimal?...........unless, of course, by inserting a few rookie "wildcards", nascar is trying to create a little action and potential chaos in the final races.

Good luck Bryan.
If qualifying was the way it should be -- the fastest cars making the race -- this young man would have no problem this weekend.

Personally, I hate provisionals, though I do understand it from the track promoters perspective.

If you can't drive a race car fast enough to make the field, you don't deserve to be in it even if you did win the Daytona 500 back in 1995, or won the championship back in who knows when, or are in the chase. That's the biggest thing I hate about NASCAR.

I still remember Bobby Rahal, Emerson Fittapaldi and Al Unser Jr., not making the Indy 500 in the mid-1990s because they couldn't run fast enough to be 33rd quick. It should be that way in NASCAR.

Drive fast, or don't race.

Jim Morrison

Jim Morrison, you just decribed perfectly why I feel NASCAR is a staged show and not a real form of racing. Can you tell I am dead set against locking in the top 35.

I hope rain doesn't wash out Bryan's chance of qualifying, go get em BC!!!

Well, they're calling for rain at Atlanta starting around 7:00 PM this evening and continuing until around 6:00 AM Saturday morning. Let's hope the weather man is wrong.

Here is a link to an article on Bryan that was posted on NASCAR.com this morning.

This actually seems to be the best time to put young drivers in. I would imagine there is way more at stake earlier in the year when 31 other cars actually have a chance at making the chase and for some of the bubble teams every position counts... Now, only 12 teams really care... and if they're not running up front then their problems are far more than running next to a rookie
