So sorry to hear of your loss. The most noble of God's creatures, our dogs mean so much to us. Some years back when our Cookie,a pekenese-pomeranian mix (and spoiled rotten!!) succumbed to a chronic heart ailment, our Vet said something to us,maybe it will help you.He said "God only lets us have them for a short time"
I am so sorry for your loss. In July we had to put down our our big kid Thunder after 16 years. People say its like loseing family . its not like it IS loseing family . Once again I am sorry. Jim
I've had two dogs in my life. Sparkey was with me from the time I was 9 years old until I was a Sophomore in College. He was a mutt that I brought home from the dairy farm up the street and went racing with us back when I was a kid. My second dog, Winston who was a mutt as well, we got from the Humane Society and he was with us from our first year of marriage until our 18th anniversary. Both were family and I miss both a great deal.
Sparkey passed away quietly at my Mom and Dad's home while Winston grew very weary and was clearly in pain as it became time for me to "put him down" as they say. Both were sad days and I cried like a baby when the time came.
I may make some of you angry but maybe not if you think about it... isn't it humane of us to be able to put our pets to sleep when the time comes? Now, why in the world can't we do that very same thing for people?
I've had quite a few dogs in my lifetime and have two beagles and two labs now. Every now and then there will be a special one that has personality and seems to live for the chance to please you. I'll bet Barney was one of those special ones.
I put Bo to sleep 9 years ago and I still get sad thinking about the day I took him to the vet for his last trip.
To Wally Jr. and Sr. and family, our sincerest condolences.
I'm sure you know in your heart that Barney is at peace in his place at Rainbow Bridge.
I always made it a point to ask Red Hat in the parking lot at Little Belleville how the ol' boy was doing. (Wally Jr. also....:2
Barney had a good long life and brought many smiles to hundreds of race fans at race tracks all over the midwest; many, many times myself included.
Trust me, there's nothing like a big ol' slobbery smooch from a good ol' handsome Basset Hound.
I never met Barney but sure wish I did. Dogs truly are part of the family with a very important purpose. From one dog owner to another I am sorry for your loss.
