20 year old Jacob Wilson, driving the Don Moore Music Publications Spike/Klein Ford, won the 20 lap Tom Corcoran Memorial midget feature at 24 Speedway at Logansport, Indiana Saturday night. Wilson, with only 2 previous starts in a full midget, started eighth in the 20 car field. After a red flag on the seventh lap, Jacob took the lead at the halfway point and was never headed.
Thanks go to Clint Wilson for doing such a great job turning the wrenches and to Mike Cray of St. Louis for his virtual advice via the air waves.
Thanks! As many of you know, Jake is a first class pavement specialist with the Silver Crown cars and pavement sprints. He won a USAC sprint race at Salem and was on his way to winning the SC race at Phoenix only to have mechanical failure ruin the charge. This kid is talented! I thought it was time to see what he can do on the dirt. He'd been struggling with the "pavement mentality" which he does so well vs. getting thru the corners on a dirt track. In the feature event at 24 Speedway, things just came together for him and he got better and better as the laps went on. Now I've seen some pavement guys struggle for an entire season and then some trying to figure out the dirt. This kid got it together quickly! Congratulations, Jacob Wilson!
Thanks Don for giving Jacob & Clinton a chance!! Clint was texting us updates, then we got the call...very exciting. I wish Diane & I could have been there. It's really great that over the years you have given so many drivers a chance to drive quality equipment with a quality owner. Look forward to next time!!
