I know this isn't exactly an open wheel topic, but it sort of fits in because the driver formerly drove Silver Crown and Midgets. Plus the driver has a sister that owns a USAC Silver Crown team -- that's me! I know some of the people who follow Silver Crown remember my brother, Robin Bank, when he drove the #72 Silver Crown car owned by Steve Brown, and then the USAC Silver Crown #90 for 2 years when I started my team in 2000. Rob also drove ARDC midgets and ARCA midgets in his own car prior to that.
I am happy to announce that Rob won this weekend in his own car at Nelson Ledges. The
rbankracing.com team powered by
Buschur Racing won it's first 24 hour race competing in the 2010
UsedCar Racing "Longest Day" at Nelson Ledges Road Course in Ohio.
The
Buschur Racing powered 1990 Eagle Talon qualified on the pole! It then went on to win the event with a 30 lap lead, which is about 45 minutes! The car completed 860 laps in 24 hours, which is 1720 miles! The top speed was 110 mph and the fastest lap was 1:26 with an average speed of 83 mph on that lap.
If anyone is not familiar with this style racing, the cars in this series cannot be worth more than $500. The DSM was competing on bone stock suspension. Since the Talon didn't finish last year at this race from engine failure, Rob called David Buschur at
Buschur Racing in Ohio to see if they would be willing to help. They had to work with a limited budget using used parts. The head was only cleaned up and gone through, no porting was done. The shortblock was built using all good used parts, but used none-the-less. Dan and Steve at
Buschur Racing took their time eliminating anything that could fail as far as small vacuum and coolant lines and such in a long race. This worked out well but during the 24 hour race a heater hose did fail but was caught early and fixed. So the engine/head were freshened with good used parts and the installation and assembly were done by
Buschur Racing. Buschur Racing's website can be found at

Here are some pictures of the "Talonator" in action.
Here is a short YouTube video of racing action on Saturday before I had to leave for Indianapolis to meet up with the Silver Crown team to head out to DuQuoin:

Rob didn't do this alone. There were 5 drivers and lots of help behind the scenes. We want to thank David Buschur at
Buschur Racing for putting together a car that was fast and could go the distance, C&G Performance in Sewickley, PA,
