Do you have any kids yourself? Is your beef with a 5 year old racing or the raffle?
To the maturity level of a 5 year old.As I have one about to be 5 myself.
I myself come from a family of racing. I been going to the races since I was 4 or 5 years old.
I am now 27 years old and still go to races. I have a soon to be 5 year old BOY. He has sat and watched racing on tv with us since the day he was born and has gone to races himself. Most all of his clothes are of some sort of racer.
His older brother builds go kart motors for a living and races go karts himself now and then.
Now he has been around some sort of racing of some kind since he was born. How would he not understand what racing is? He goes around telling me and his dad that he wants to race.He will probably eventually be racing something.
What I am getting at is when a kid has been around things for so long they either enjoy it or not, and sometimes they want to do the same thing as they are around all the time.
If a kid at 5 years old said he wanted to play a certain sport, should you let him or not as he is saying he wants to play that sport. It is the kids decision to play or not to play.
Just a thought...............

You know Paul, I kind of agree with you. My thought was that if you have to hold a fund raiser to buy a 5 yr old a helmet to race a go-kart, perhaps you should wait until you are on more sound financial footing before starting a racing program? However, if it works out for them....go for it, I guess. I just found it to be a little strange. JMHO

Sounds to me like a kid that wants to race! Seems to me like I remember some young kids showing up at Columbus Kart track, with a desire to race, and also still play with the other kids their age. Names were Billy, Tony, Brad, David, might even remember their last names, Puterbaugh, Stewart, Fox, Bridges, gosh, that was a long time ago, anyone remember them? I think we've all been guilty of selling one thing, to finance another. Bob

Sounds like a yard sale to me.

Is this the same little guy they wrote an article about in the paper last summer? If it is, he sounds like a kid who genuinely wants to race and his Dad sounds like a parent who would do whatever it takes to help him achieve this dream. I admire the ambition they have.
I've got 3 big garbage bags of cans in my garage. I'll bring them to you if you want them. My email is below.
