MAY 19TH – LAWRENCEBURG SPEEDWAY – BUCKEYE OUTLAW SPRINT SERIES

On Saturday night May 19th the Buckeye Outlaw Sprint Series makes its only appearance of the year at the Lawrenceburg Speedway in Lawrenceburg, Ind. The BOSS series will be running in conjunction with the track’s Kelsey Chevrolet sprint car division and a great field of cars are expected.

The BOSS sprints have made twelve previous visits to the Burg with an average car count of 33.4. Their highest tally, on May 20th of last season, was forty-one cars but that event was rained out after heat races had been completed.

In the eleven features run there have been seven different winners. Justin Grant, CJ Leary, Thomas Meseraull and Shawn Westerfeld each have a pair of wins, while Josh Hodges, Joss Moffat, and last years Jason Soudrette Memorial winner Jordan Kinser have visited Budweiser Victory Lane under the BOSS banner once.

Chase Briscoe is the current BOSS point leader after winning the BOSS season opener on May 5th at the Fremont Speedway in Fremont, Ohio, over Thomas Meseraull and Dustin Smith. Smith, the defending BOSS champion, sits just ten markers behind Briscoe and is set to make a run for his record-breaking third BOSS championship this year.

Dickie Gaines sits atop the Kelsey Chevrolet Sprints point standings with Garrett Abrams nipping at his heels. Abrams scored his first feature win last Saturday with a thrilling victory over former Lawrenceburg Speedway champions Joss Moffatt and Shawn Westerfeld. Abrams took the checkered flag a mere 0.165 seconds ahead of Moffatt, with Westerfeld only another 0.483 seconds behind.

The BOSS race format will be used Saturday night which is very similar to what Lawrenceburg Speedway runs weekly. Heat races will be lined up via the pill draw with race finishes, and a redraw for the top starting positions setting the feature lineup. If there are 29 cars or less 20 cars will do battle on the 3/8ths mile high banks. 30 to 39 cars will see 22 starters, while 40 or more cars will bump the feature field to 24.

The standard BOSS feature payout will be used which pays $1,500 to win and $250 to start. BOSS also pays out $100 in each heat race ($40, $30, $20 and $10), and has several contingency awards including the Hard Luck Award ($50), Lucky Pill Draw ($50), Hard Charger ($50), Perseverance Award ($50), Sweet Move ($50 gift certificate), and the Steel Block Bonus ($50). American Racer will also give away a free tire to the highest finisher in the feature with American Racer’s on all four corners. Hoosier Tire will do the same to the highest feature finisher sporting a complete set of Hoosier rubber.

BOSS/Kelsey Chevrolet Sprint Feature Payouts (20 cars = $8,750)
1- $1,500, 2- $900, 3- $700, 4- $600, 5- $500, 6- $450, 7- $400, 8- $375, 9- $350, 10- $325, 11- $300, 12- $290, 13- $280, 14- $270, 15- $260, 16- $250, 17- $250, 18- $250, 19- $250, 20- $250.

All cars that do not start the feature will receive $100 tow money and as is the case every week the Lawrenceburg Speedway Safety Crew will pay $63 to the feature hard charger for its Grasshopper Award in honor of the late Bryan Clauson.

On the docket Saturday night alongside the BOSS/Kelsey Chevrolet Sprints will be the Budweiser UMP Modifieds, Impact Sports Pure Stocks and the Bessler’s U Pull & Save Hornets. Practice will begin at 6:00 pm with opening ceremonies scheduled for 7:00 pm.

All BOSS teams must visit the Lawrenceburg Speedway draw table outside the tech building to pick up a transponder (at no charge) before signing in with BOSS. If teams have a Westhold (yellow) transponder they may use their own, but still need to let Lawrenceburg Speedway officials know their transponder number before pulling a pill with BOSS.
