A couple thoughts on Shaw's, KT's and Onlydirt's posts, and last night's feature in general.....

Are you guys forgetting that sprint cars don't have mirrors? The flagman can show the layover flag all he wants, but the bottom line is that Hendrick is out there racing too and can't commit to anything until he hears what he thinks is the leader behind him consistently. And it's not like he's some green rookie, he's got a lot of experience in micros and midgets. I didn't think he did anything that far out of line at all.

Lapped cars are part of the deal, especially when you start 24 cars on a track the size of Gas City. And it's better to be running second when you catch up to a gaggle of backmarkers in the waning laps, as opposed to leading.

I like Dave Darland, admire his talent and longevity and think he's one of the best and cleanest drivers of my generation. But he wasn't catching Hockett without lapped traffic interfering last night. Not a chance.

Clauson was over his head for two or three laps before he stepped on it. It was clear that something was coming, and it's a good thing he somehow saved it because that was going to get really ugly, really fast.

The delays were pretty excessive and I'm sure USAC cringed at having that much down time, but I've got to say I was impressed with the reworking prior to the B. The racing after that point was well worth the wait. I was certain that the racing surface was beyond retrieval after the heats, but the Gas City crew did a great job to build a racy track out of nothing. Well, except for that crater in one, but that's just part of the deal.
