Sammy is/was one of the all time greatest. Doug Wolfgang mentions it in his book many times that Sammy would out work everyone in the pits in his early days. He carried spare parts before anyone else.
Jack French is still around, and yes- he is the one who had Alan Barr driving for him. He likes to keep a low profile. He is our team manager again this year I am pleased to report.
I don't like "blowing my own horn" but feel I should mention him since he puts so much into racing and seldom gets much credit compared to the driver:
Best young crew chief- Clinton Wilson, Sprint car and Silver Crown car.
most people probably think Jack or myself make all the calls and do the "important" work on the cars, but the opposite is true.
Florida 400- Clint stripped a borrowed car down to the bare frame and rebuilt it prior to going to florida. Jack nor myself touched a wrench to the car and it finished 3rd. At the ripe old age of 16; Clinton and crew won a USAC national race at Salem. We had some parts fail during the year, but nothing was ever left loose or fell apart.
Midgets- Kevin Besecker, Bob East, Benics.
Pave Sprint- Glen Neibel, Jack French; Dirt Sprint- Galen and the Fox boys.
