Watching the video it looks like the final landing is what hurt him. A lot like Brad Marvel at Williams Grove. When you land flat on the rear and the rear end gets driven up into the seat as the drivers azz is get compressed into it will hurt a driver.
I don't know of any azz safety devices made to stop this. His flips were just that, but the landing was hard. Backwards and I would bet on the concrete outside the track.
As far as insurance, Stida should be a must for a profesional driver as well as the local track racer. Track insurance only goes so far.
Hope he recovers and can return to racing.
