+#49 Frankie Mack, #50 Bud Holmes, & #2 BobCarrigan were scheduled to make this a 24 car feature field but were DNS's for some reason.
+As you can see, all races, including the feature, were completely inverted. So they had a "one second rule" whereby if you ran 1 second faster in the race than you had qualified, and they caught you, you were DQed. Intended to discourage "featherfooting" in time trials. I'm guessing that I left the track thoroughly P.O.ed that night after my boy "Sheldon" was victimized by a faulty timing light. :wink
+One of IOW's finest, Butch Wilkerson (Butch47265), had a nice night here. I have some upcoming retros where he fared even better. :thumb
+Another IOW member, John Mugavin (wallbanger II), elected to start on the tail of the Stock Car 50 Lapper, mayhaps to avoid a takedown by the dreaded 1 sec. rule, after he timed in at a slow for him, 18.44. Calvin Dean had been FQ in #56 at 17.17. John brought his #57 from the rear of the 20 car field to finish 4th :applaud: in the feature won by #55 Paul Crockett with #11 Earl Smith in second.
+I'm looking through old steno pads trying to determine who Johnny ?? in the #44
was. I must have been chugging a Burger Beer when they announced his last name. Bob Papoy drove a #44 some the next season ('69). Might have been Johnny Krebs. Any IOW oldtimers have an idea???
+Flip John is a mystery to me as well. Don't remember him at all. Might have been an alias like Frankie Mack or Smoke Johnson. :confused:
