Personally, I think that the negativity that is often strewn around in here is very detrimental to the sport we love. Not directly, but certainly in an indirect manner. While a message board can be used for good things, this place, and others like it, often resort to nothing more than a haven for negative comments from primarily ill informed people.
I have been very critical of those who use this forum to vent their angst about whatever it is that is bothering them about any subject they can conceive of. I have been especially critical of those who do so in an anonymous manner. I feel that most of these comments are not of a constructive nature, but are done more in a destructive, divisive way. We all have a responsibilty to approach this forum in the same manner, and with the same common courtesy we would show a person if they were standing before us. And most often, that isn't done around here. I have been very critical of those that have the propensity to do this. I think it's irresponsible as one can be in an online forum.
What simply amazes me is, when you see something positive in this forum, something that promotes the greater good of our sport, you get about 1/3 of the usual responses. Which is really sad...When there's a positive subject nobody seems to care. But, a negative tread shows up, and EVERYONE wants to weigh in on it. Why does it have to be that way?
Truth is, it doesn't. But, we all have to police ourselves if we want a veritable online utopia. The simple truth is, if everyone just followed the rule that your Mother taught you..."If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all", then quite frankly, some people would have nothing to say at all. And everyone here knows that to be true.
