Saturday night at Williams Grove Speedway the Sutliff Auto Group super sportsman had a new look. The wings were off the racecars for the first time in the Williams Grove super sportsman division. The lack of downforce didn’t slow down Ryan Rupp as he won his first super sportsman feature at the Grove.
Ryan Rupp started on the outside of the front and had the lead off of turn two. Scott Dellinger applied heavy pressure by working the bottom lanes, keeping him within a length of the leader.
On lap nine the red flag came out for a spectacular wreck in turn three. Dave Berkheimer and Dylan Cisney tangled, sending both cars into a series of flips. The Cisney car vaulted over the third turn fencing, landing on the grass banking. Neither driver was injured in the crash.
Following the restart it was Rupp in front with Dellinger and Bobby Hockenberry trailing. By the end of lap 11 Hockenberry seized second from Dellinger.
Hockenberry was within striking distance of the leader. Over the final three laps Hockenberry had his hands full with a rapidly closing Doug Hendricks.
Ryan Rupp cruised home for the win in front of Hockenberry, Hendricks, Dellinger and Gregg Foster.
“I knew who was coming,” said Rupp following the feature. “There was a number twenty-five car (Hockenberry) that was surely fast all night long. I seen him sneaking up back there and I knew Scott was behind me there for a while. All I knew I had to do was drive a straight line.”
The heat wins for the 25 Sutliff Auto Group super sportsman went to Frankie Herr, John Stoner and Bobby Hockenberry.
