Binks bought at least a couple of the Cluason midgets to run as a test bed  Those two cars were quick enough to make the A main.
I don't know Dan at all so I can't speak for him.  But I do know he has the same plans for a sprint motor in both midgets and sprints the plans were to have competitive motors that lasted longer and were Half, If not lower than TRD  Gaerte's and speedway engines of both sprints and midgets.  Both based on LS platforms.     They already run a LS in the Sprint pavement car.
