The use of the word "attended" I understand to mean in-person spectator attendance. Folks in the stands is the only thing that supports mercenary racing.
Sportsman racing, where the participant bears all the costs can also support the venues. Sportsman motorsport is the default mode for sportscars (SCCA), boats (APBA), and almost all weekly drag racing (NHRA).
Can the promoters of circle racing find a way to run mostly sportsman events to pay the chronic costs, with much less frequent spectator shows for the glitter?
