Most tracks take too much time between races. So, they have 8 classes and the racing can be done quickly if they only have heats and features. With 8 classes maybe one heat and feature for each class. Then each feature may be a crash fest which takes up time. My last two Saturday nights at the races, the 410 sprints lost almost half of the starters from crashes.
