In addition to our 10+ 4 Crown's, 20+ World 100's and several Dreams we also attended both the late model million and the Mopar Million.

Maybe this dizzying format Eldora is going to use for this rendition of the dirt late model million will jazz up the action. The only things remarkable we recall concerning the late model million is Jack Hewitt blowing an engine with a straightaway lead and a handful of laps to go in his heat race which would have had him starting the 100 lapper up front. The other being eventual winner Moran taking the lead for good 1/4 of the way into the 100 lap A-main and basically driving away unchallenged until the final dozen laps when the 2nd place finisher was closing the gap getting within a couple of car lengths on the final lap. Other than that there was nothing all that exciting about the entire show. Hopefully that won't be the case with this reiteration of the million.

The Mopar Million was much more entertaining and paid $10,000.00 just to take the green flag, as opposed to just $3,000.00 for the DLM million. Most of us found the big money to start to greatly enhance the entertainment value of the prelim racing and the pressure just to get in. A six figure share of the purse being paid to the top 3 finishers was a huge plus, as well.

Silver Crown Championship Dirt Cars properly driven on a one mile dirt track are classic poetry in motion. Using that analogy, Jack Hewitt is one of the greatest poets of all time.
