COULD SHOWTIME SPEEDWAY SOON BE THE PAVEMENT NON-WING CAPITOL OF THE WORLD?
March 17, 2021 – Pinellas Park, Florida - Showtime Speedway promoter Robert Yoho today announced that he has added non-wing sprint cars as a weekly class at Showtime Speedway for the remainder of the year. He will feature non-wing sprint cars utilizing Little 500 rules which would also allow 410 engines to compete regularly at his track.
If the car count is solid, Yoho intends to pay the $1500-to-win $200-to-start purse that he as well as the Southern Sprint Car Shootout Series is currently offering. If the care count is deemed low, he would offer no less than a $1,200-to-win purse. In addition, the feature distance will only be 25 laps in an effort to help conserve tire wear.
Today’s announcement definitely puts Yoho and Showtime Speedway on the map. No pavement track in the country will host as many sprint car events as Showtime Speedway in 2021.
The schedule only lists dates through the end of June, but the rest of the schedule through the end of the year will be finalized in the coming weeks. Yoho also indicated plans are being finalized for a long-distance race with a large purse sometime in November to close out the season.
A quick glance at the dates that have been announced shows that non-wing sprint cars will be idle on May 29, the night of the annual Pay Less Little 500 in Anderson, Indiana. But there are scheduling conflicts on April 3 and May 15 when the local Southern Sprint Car Shootout Series visits Auburndale Speedway.
Regardless of the ********, could Showtime Speedway be unofficially the new non-wing pavement sprint car capitol of the world? Based solely on the amount on non-wing evets that could potentially be contested in 2021, Yoho is certainly making a case.
