I live a half an hour from Waynesfield and 40 minutes from Eldora but since we live in fear in Ohio I have been making more trips west this year. Last night I went to Lawrenceburg, making a return trip from last weeks rain out.
The sprint races were great with a couple of the heats being racy and watching Anton Hernandez come from fairly deep in the pack in the feature was very enjoyable. He made a few very aggressive slidejobs that might be on the edge for a local show but if he is going to make it on the national level that's how those guys get it done.
Now, I am the kind of guy that goes to a track for the sprints and then like to stay for the rest of the classes if it is within reason and I must say that almost every time I go to L-Burg the modified class is a clown show. This night was no different as it took multiple restarts and then the transponder system went down and so they struggled with getting cars in line. By the time they were done, they had cars that caused cautions starting in front of cars that had not and then started having issues with cars overheating as they were trying to get in order. Once they did get started they couldn't get any rhythm as they would only go a few laps before another caution. It appears to me that they have a pull off lane in the backstretch that isn't off of the track so even when cars did get off of the track they still had to throw a caution to push them farther off of the track.Even when the event did finish after 40 minutes(no joke), I cannot tell you who won because the announcer just kept gushing about the 400 time champion Matt Hamilton and what a great job he had done to finish 3rd.Maybe I was just annoyed and over sensitive by that time.
I did stay for the hornets who put on a pretty good show but they had a scary accident in one of the heats when they had a car stalled on the backstretch for a half a lap and instead of him trying to get off of the track or the flagman throwing the caution they let the leaders barrel into him. Luckily no one was hurt but they destroyed two cars for not much of a reason.
Finally the stocks came out, they had a guy spin out in turn one on one of the first laps and after the caution came out the guy in second got into the leader and the leader spins in turn four. After they put the leader on the tail for the restart giving the lead to the one that got into him I had had enough and went to the car.
Hopefully The Burg has their transponder issue figured out by Sprintweek because this is two weeks in a row that it has had an issue.
All of that being said, Lawrenceburg is still a great place to go see a sprint or midget race and I cannot wait to get back, but I will not be staying for the support classes.
