A huge stretch? Not in terms of where the 500 ranks in comparison with other motorsports events. Overall public interest? Maybe. Betting? Is that really a good thing? It is still the largest single day event, of ANY kind, in the WORLD, even in the off years. 300,000 people, compared to 50,000 or so at the Super Bowl. And you made my point by saying it would be a one-off. I can still go to the 500 every year, sitting in some of the best seats in the house, not in the top ring in the corner of the end zone. And I beg to differ that the racing was lackluster. You just have to know what you're watching, an endurance event at over 200 MPH. Someone who loves Silver Crown racing (so do I) should understand that concept. Very few previous runnings have come close to the intensity of the past few years, even the "classics" that live in our memories didn't have the sheer volume of action. The Brickyard is lackluster; I can walk to the track and I haven't even thought about going in the 9 years I've lived here. I'll never miss another 500.
