One difference I can see is being able to repair the aluminum block instead of junking the iron block after a catastrophic blowup. The aluminum block is more expensive, but not a whole lot. I think a std weight aluminum block is between $4000 & $4500, while a Dart iron block is around $2500 or so. I'm sure someone here can give more accurate figures, but I think they're close. However, I'm guessing most SC teams start a race with a fresh motor, so to stick in a 410 sprint motor (which would be cammed wrong for a mile track) that had say 5 shows on it-would you trust it to make it 100 miles? Also, I think the oil pans are different for the pavement cars anyway. Anyone else?
