I used to go to the big E 8 to 10 times a year which was a lot of 5 hours drives one way. This is when Earl owned the place,I was so in awe when walked though that gate and saw the track and thought about all my hero"s who had raced there . I just couldn"t understand this big famous track being so dusty, but I kept showing up,lol like so many others. I know Earl would spray water on it but that would be gone while the cars were lineing up for their heat or feature didn"t matter I know this was way before track operators had these track scratchers as I call them, there are some tracks where I don"t think it would help anyway. So I stopped going , but that was just part of the problem, I'm going going to step on some toes now, but it seems the younger crowd cares more about how much beer they can drink than the races. And there was a bunch that can"t handle the alcohol and getting sick in the stands and loved hearing the guy who bragged how many beers he drank last night but couldn"t tell you who won the feature I even had one take a swing at me once, missed by a county mile and wond up falling down the steps. I thought it will be better with Tony takeing over, wrong, I went to the big spring race for USAC and was later named the big dust out, could tell there had been no work done to the track over the winter when you could see green weeds growing in track and by the wall, but I thought it would be ok cuz they were pouring the water to it, boy was I wrong lol. First hot lap session as the cars got the green and went by the suites in turn three you could only see about half of the suites by the second lap you couldn"t see any of it . Thankfully USAC called the races, Eldora wanted to just give rain checks I tried to explain that I couldn"T come back in two weeks so I lost my 20 bucks and they lost a race fan Sorry about writeing a book.
