I am currently in Oswego, the first thing that was pointed out to me Saturday night when I arrived at the track were the black skid marks going into the first turn. The trottle stuck on the Strong Supermodified sending Joey into the first turn foam blocks. The best words I heard in those next few seconds were that Joey was all right.
Although I did not see the accident, I got a birds eye view of the what was left of the car. The frame is bent at the roll cage, the last report I heard the car is pretty much a write off.
The addition of foam blocks in the turns at Oswego years ago has saved many a racer serious injury. Joey taking things a step further an finally wearing a head and neck device probably saved his life Saturday night. He has his brother Johhny to thank for insisting that he wear a device, giving him one to wear and Saturday night being the first time he wore it.
