I've seen Jeff G. bashed on way too many boards for not owning a sprint car or midget team. My reply has always been that it is his money, and that he can choose to spend it however he chooses. None of us are in any position to judge anyone and how they spend their money. Would we like it if someone judged us publicly on how we spent our money?
Like you said, Jeff's charitable work with Riley, leukemia groups, and the like says way more about the man than owning a race team...

Agree with that. However, Smoke proves BOTH can be done IF one wants to. I’ve seen interviews with Gordon where he’s said it’s because it costs a lot of money to own a team. Agree, but Smoke and Kahne aren’t doing it out of their own pockets. You can’t tell me Gordon couldn’t raise the funds via sponsors IF he wanted to. I just don’t think he has the passion for it that Smoke and Kahne do so he doesn’t do it. Not saying its right or wrong, that’s the way I see it. I applaud his charitable work because it is more important than racing. However, don’t give us the story of it costing too much to get in. Just say that it’s just not something you want to do and that’s that…personal choice. I just hate when the money card is played because it’s a cop-out to me. Just say it’s not something I want to invest my personal time in….end of story. No problem with somebody making a decision…be honest about it though. I just don’t like a false reason being given. It is work and if it’s not something you want to do then fine.
As much as you see Smoke and Kahne around the dirt tracks, it’s because they love it as fans. It’s not just an ownership thing for them. Smoke probably knows who won local shows around the state of IN on a given week. Wouldn’t surprise me at all with him being as big a fan as we are.
