Much about our sport has changed. In the 70's with 305's all USAC races were 40 laps and no tracks under a half mile. They ran Twin 50's at the Indy Mile and lots of 50 lappers at Winchester and Eldora. If memory serves me, and sometimes it doesn't, the WoO also ran 50 laps at the Indy Mile and Springfield. In today's world with bigger engines, soft tires and smaller tanks this apparently is not possible. Is it a true sprint car race with a mandatory stop in which crews are allowed to work on the cars? IMHO it is not.

Also as an aside I posted this question about whether the K'ville Nationals is a legitimate sprint car race on another forum and was excoriated by some as being a troll trying to discredit the race. I am beginning to feel much of these sentiments are based upon generational differences and a lack of knowledge by some. In short, I'll take my sprint car racing as pure as I can get it and leave the gimmicks to the marketing gurus of NASCAR and the so-called "Greatest Show on Dirt". See ya at Kokomo!
