Don't we already have open comp racing at every local track? To my knowledge the rules most have are tires and we all know what that is about. Other than that, who says guys aren't already running big motors or light cars or whatever open comp is suppossed to represent. That is why the Indiana scene is so strong right now because of the lack of rules.
The only way that a class like that will work is by having rules(and someone who actually enforces them) and the car has to be race ready for $10,000 or less(Used parts/New motors). The payoff has to be at least $750 to win. The car cannot cost more than the cost of fuel to get there and race and pit passes for the night.(Unless you crash) I would mandate (if they have them left) the Hoosier 85 Silver Crown Tire or the American Racer Equivilent. Steel shocks and thigs like that. If the motor costs more than $5,000 complete, race ready to put in, then it is too much. Do not do steel wheels as there are enough aluminum wheels and parts out there to supply the market.
I agree with George on too much of a good thing. We already have too much.
The only way it works and serves all parties is by making it a racers series and not a series to sell crate motors and spec parts such as tires and fuel. It will have to be a labor of love because the hassle will be more than the money.
