Just thinking out loud on the last bit. But still wondering if there are actual data test before putting limits. And yes, I think getting 25 races before a rebuild is much better than maybe 15.

I always loved the innovation of the midgets, Heck at one time a outboard boat motor was the hot ticket. About five or six years ago some team from down under had a block and crank made to combine two hyabusa motorcycle engines to make a low cubic litre v8. I know it ran the chili bowl and I think they had two cars. Here's a link. Synergy Engine Midget http://www.synergypower.co.nz/index....-installation/

Was it written out of the rule books or never let in? They said the cost comparison for building was negligible compared to the top midget engines at the time. But that motor would be working half as hard and build right lasted longer.

Oh well, just more thoughts through the proverbial keyboard.

Chuck I think some reasons why V6 production car engines wouldn't be used is their weight compared to a purpose built race engine, they aren't built or designed with racing applications in mind and then are they any cheaper than buying a decent second hand race engine with the development that needs to be done to get them up to speed and keep them reliable?

I have seen it many times over the years here in Australia where people have gone an got a production car engine and thought it would be a cheaper option to turn it into a race engine. Sadly though they were mistaken and after months or years trying and many DNF's and rebuilds they either walk away from the sport or end buying that second hand race engine that they should have bought originally. It more often than not turns into a false economy.

As for the V8 Synergy engine it has fallen by the wayside in recent years both here in Australia and in New Zealand. One of the issues in New Zealand is the Major track owner just happens to own one of the big Midget Engine companies in the USA so has seen fit to not allow that engine in recent years at his track even though it met the National Rule book. Oh and buy the way the Synergy used Kawasaki heads from memory not Hyabusa.

Here in Australia the engine has only had any real success with Davey Ray driving for one car owner. I don't necessarily know that the engine was the secret to Davey's success in that car. It was a good complete package with one the Chassis builder being brought over from New Zealand to act as crew chief (same guy has tremendous success with Bryan Clauson in his car too in recent years) as well as having the engine designer there to look after the engine and nothing was lacking in the quality of the equipment.
