I can get carried away at times about who's tough or brave, in reality its not any racer in the world.
Its kids and some of the things they over come. My granddaughter was born 1lb. 6oz.,
almost 14 years ago. She's had a real tough go of it, including a stint in foster care due to her inept parents. At our races they have a kids race, 1/8 mile around the track. There were probley 70 kids running, including the fore mentioned Jenny and my other granddaughter 8 year old Megan. Megan is faster then Jenny so I expected to see her up front. Instead the 8 year old Megan took the hand of a handicapped child next to her and was happy running in last place. As we were watching her I tried to find Jenny in the crowd, one kid was out front and flying it was Jenny and we were all amazed at how fast she was. About 50 feet from the finish she stopped to help a little boy get back to his feet and she ended up getting passed for the win.
Needless to say it was the best race I ever saw.
Grandpa's little monsters turned into angels if only for a little while.
It was the first race they ever attended and it brought out the best in them.
