Today we lost a great pioneer of racing from the 50's through the 70's. Andy Hampton was a driver dating back to the early 50's. He drove everything from Crosley sedans indoors to Midgets to Sprint Cars to NASCAR Winston cup cars. Perhaps his greatest accomplishments was when he teamed up with a guy named Harry Hyde who had converted an old Indy car to what was then called a Modified powered by what is now called a crate fuel injected Corvette motor. They named the car "Fido" and Andy and Harry went on a winning streak lasting over 2 years at the Sports Drome in Jeffersonville Indiana. Andy was involved in a serious accident at Daytona in a Winston cup car and retired to a life of selling used cars in the area. RIP Andy
