From what I have heard. The last couple of years the cost of setting up the dirt track was paid for by Berlin. Before it was paid for by a outside party. The dirt came from the local college when the redid the football field. So if a "sponsor" could be found to pay for the cost they would do it again. I know they have had new management changes the pass few years. The race track and the property belongs to the government. So I am part owner of the track. LOL. They lease the track to the promoter. For a long time it was ran by a local family, then it was ran by the local minor league baseball team. When they learned it was hard work and little money, they got out of it. Of late, a few local business/racers/ race team owners have been running the track.
I live close by the track. But only go to it when they have open wheel shows. Be it dirt or pavement. They have cut back on the pavement open wheel show the pass few years. The splitting of the winged sprint car clubs was hurt the shows. We have not seen the east coast supers in a long time at the track. Also we had a Michigan USAC midget club a few years, but that fell apart.
You can argue this part, but the car count and crowds are down at the track. In the times past they would pack the place for all types of races. ASA-USAC-Auto-Value-ARCA. The super late models used to be a weekly class. Kalamazoo speedway would run Friday nights and Berlin Sat nights. Racers would run both tracks.
