Chevy came out with the 265 CI Small Block in 1955 but nobody ever took much interest in them until actually 1957 when they upped it to 283 cubic inches. Jim Hurtubise was one of the first drivers racing sprints to make it competitive against the then mighty Offy. Racers then figured out if they bored it to 4" they could turn it into a very competitive race motor that they called a 301 back then but now all of us enlightened racers now call it a 302. Go figure???? We no longer really need the old OEM stuff because we now clone them in China. But when all is said and done their time is growing near. It has been an amazing engine but I think racers could do better.
