To the casual fan, It might not appear that something is wrong, I don't know the all the reasons behind it, Or a total fix for it.
But why is it that sometimes up to 7 tracks within 150 miles of Indy are running Saturday nights only? With more and more trying to put a race up against em all.
Granted over half the fans at each track normally are locals but low counts don't encourage anyone to travel to tracks thinking that there won't even be two full heats worth of cars.
Thats not all that bothers me. Some drivers or teams (Sometimes both) and drivers are throwing on the wing where they have the option of three or four nights of racing a week. Why?
A. Driver is often running for half his position finish pay or less and needs more than one night,
B, Sponsor wants name at more than just one track with the same 800 local fans every week.
C, Team or Driver may not ever have been very good at the only Fri or Sun and sometimes NO tracks that run those nights.
D, Saturday Tracks that have worked a long time to setup a event no longer deem it worthy to make it a big payday or have event Tee Shirts knowing the car count won't be great and possibly fan count diluted.
I know there are logistics to fri and sun racing that often don't apply to Saturday both for tracks and teams. But a quick run program with good car counts can be successful.
I wrote this as more of a blog post, But wonder what others think about it. I think there is enough Saturdays that tracks could work together not to interfear so much in anothers special.
I also think there are enough off nights that non sprint tracks can schedule shows. I also think it hurts the car counts worse come August when some teams are down motors or chassis and need a couple weeks or more to get back. But more tracks are running.
ALL IN ONE NIGHT.
Your thoughts? It isn't meant to be a negative post, But a betterment of the sport for all, Racers and Fans alike.
