I have nothing against the current trend to try to establish a uniform "D-II" rules package or whatever it ends up being called (other than having to lobby to get my old crate grandfathered in, but that's another subject) but I find it interesting that Brian & Harold seem to have hit on something that is working, right now, and they continue to draw excellent fields (given the current climate) and put on some great racing while continually making improvements to the facility. All of this is being accomplished with a low-key, "Run watcha brung" attitude that doesn't require someone to conform to an overly-complex set of statutes. Is it perfect? No. Does a guy like me stand a chance of winning in the equipment I have? No; at my current state of driving ability I couldn't win in a Kunz Toyota but accomplished shoes like Chet Gehrke and the Liguoris have been competitive in "lesser" equipment on a given night. Besides, there's a certain satisfaction to driving well enough to make the main against the bigger guns and the payout for just getting in the show ain't half bad. I support the efforts of everyone who's working on growing the D-II platform but I also want to say thanks to Bear and the promoters at Union County for giving us another option on an off week at MMS.
