I think what we see in racing is just a cross section of people who have different personalities, being on display in front of thousands of people. Some folks let their mouth out run their brain, some don't care if it happens, some seem to let their emotions run their lives. Now sometimes people act out of character when the pressure is on. Like for example Friday at Bloomington I saw a driver who pulled into his pit and roll up into his trailer, jump out and start throwing things, screaming the "F" word so most around could hear, all because he lost a transfer spot. Sunday I saw Chase act out of character when he got upset about the start of the heat with Kyle, gave Kyle the finger, then Kyle gave him a bump. These guys are under pressure, they want to win, they don't want to tear up there equipment, and they all need the money to keep their racing operation going, so that's a tremendous amount of pressure. They are aggressive by nature, or they wouldn't be drivers who push themselves and their equipment to the edge for our entertainment. I saw it on display a couple years ago with Kevin Thomas and crew at Kokomo during sprint week. They let their emotions get away from them and they paid a price, financially and with some pain. They apologized and all was well. We can all get emotional, angry, and let the pressure get to us. But what we do after we make a fool of our selves is what really matters, go back make it right, apologize, make up, set the record straight. We all have said and done things out of character. I have twice in my career as a firefighter put on a display of anger, said a few choice words, albeit at a Chief officer. After the incident I went to them, apologized for my show of anger, we worked it out, and all is well to this day.
The question of who the best driver is? They are all good, why did Robert suddenly start winning a lot of races last year? Did he suddenly figure out how to drive? Most of these guys are capable winning on a given night, get the car just right, have a bit of luck, and not make mistakes. Robert is doing well because his car has been pretty good, he has a strong motor, and yes he drives the crap out of it. Same could be said of Brady S, KT, Chase, Kyle, DD, Bacon, etc. Many good drivers today. I watched Logan Jarrett and CJ Leary put on a clinic at L'burg couple months ago, also watched them struggle to make the feature other nights, what? did they forget how to drive?? No they missed the setup, motor wouldn't run, no brakes, poor qualifying effort, drew a bad pill number, made a critical mistake, etc. That's why its called racing, not winning. Its those who have good equipment, drive hard, push themselves, have a bit of luck, and have some natural ability who have had the opportunity to win and taken advantage of it, some many times over...
