Although i am a midget guy and not involved with sprints i have to say i agree with Kevin and commend him for making a stand. It is a pretty sad state of affairs when a racer at the level of competetion we compete can show up at the track to be part of the show and leave empty handed. especaily after paying an entry fee. I always try to look at things like this from both the sides of the issue. the racer's as well as the side of the promoter. I can see how with the big car counts at alot of the shows that not paying everybody can help keep alot of money in the promoters pocket and may even make the difference between a profit and a loss in some cases. I am a business owner myself, and am all for making a profit, but i do not think it should be done at the expense of the racers who support the show/series.
I was not paid after running a midget race for the first time in my 7 years of racing last season and was absolutely floored by it. I love running with the group, and will most likely continue to do so as long as i am involved in midget racing because they are one of the best organizations around. When i did not recieve a check i figured it was an error and sent an e mail about it. i was told that they only payed the top XX (i don't remeber the exact number, but it seems like it was 32) number of cars in the show. I did not finish in the top 6 or 8 spots of the B main, or what ever it was that night, to get me into to that XX number of cars so i did not get paid. i did respond with a e mail explaining why i thought that was a really bad policy and explained why I hoped for there sake as well as mine they would reconsider it in the future. It just seems short sighted to me to go into a event knowing that if you get the average car turn out your hoping for at an event, that you will send at least 3-4 people away unhappy.
Kevin Briscoe has a tough struggle ahead of him, but without people like him who are willing to take a stand for what they believe in there is not much chance to make things better. :thumb
