Kevin -

While I cannot disagree with your thoughts here, I don't know that your position will gain much support from other racers. I've been a long time crewman on winged cars, and my personal experience is that most car owners will race for a trophy. They'll run for limited purses, in lousy conditions, and be treated poorly in the process.

Most track operators have forgotten how to PROMOTE - they find it easier to charge at the back gate rather than do a promoters job. And I know that the competition for our discretionary dollars is greater than ever - which to me, means that a promoter must work harder than ever - for both his fans, and his racers. My point is merely that racers will always show up, will almost always pay whatever fees promoters and sanctioning bodies charge, and then get the short end of the stick. I find it amazing that almost all of the racers will not stick together whenever someone suggests something like this.

When I first attended a Silver Crown race as a crewman in the mid 90's, I was astonished by the number of USAC officials assigned to the pits - it seemed like there was an official at every car! I questioned whether they were necessary then, and I question their need today....

So like I said, your ideas are solid, but stand very little chance, IMO. of changing anything, anywhere.... which is sad, ain't it.....
