As of late 1,000 cc motors have become hard to find, across the board.

I've seen that the GSXR motors seem to be the ones to have right now as far as horsepower is concerned, but their design pretty much requires you buy a billet oil pan for them. They also have an external oil cooler that you have to find a place for in the car. On top of that, demand for the motor has pushed the price up considerably higher than other brands. One other aspect I noticed, is that the water pump is right next to the output shaft. Kind of a tender spot right next to the chain, in my opinion...

I personally am still using the 07-08 R1, as they are less costly to purchase, you can run the stock oil pan without issue, and you don't have the external oil cooler to worry about. On the flip side, it's a bit down on horsepower over the GSXR, so it's at a disadvantage on a tacky track.

That should get the ball rolling, anyone else want to chime in?
