Not quite "down the road", but there is another USAC race that night- Indiana Midget Week at Lawrenceburg Speedway.
I live 5 hours from Gateway, but I'd be there if I didn't have to choose between 2 USAC races on the same day. Seems like the 'Burg is always the track which USAC double-schedules against (even during Sprint Week in the past). Oh well, I guess you gotta race when NASCAR says so, sometimes

No matter! The Midget Week date at Lawrenceburg has produced some of the best races in recent memory, and that's where I'll happily be.
