My only point of emphasis with this format is that the history of most dirt tracks demonstrates tracks changing significantly early in the night from greasy slick to packed tacky as group qualifying progresses. Cars in group 4 or higher can be a whole second quicker than group 1 just because the track "comes in". The way that Kokomo evens the playing field is that you race against the same cars in your qualifying group with the cars lined up based on qualifying and an invert. The cars would race their way into the dashes based on how they finish in the heats (top 2 or 3 for example) instead of basing it purely on your qualifying time which may or may not be representative of how good your car really is. I really like the innovative thinking that WRP always seems to use in setting up this race and really appreciate the tribute it pays to a very deserving "past champion".
