Given the weather, I'd say the crowd size was about all you could expect it to be. Not only did the STL area have tornadoes the day before, but the weathermen had been screaming all week about how Friday and Saturday were certain to be complete washouts. Kind of puts a litteral and figurative damper on interest for outdoor events.
Let's face it: To get at really good crowd turnout for this deal, you're going to have to attract a lot of the casual race fans. And the SC Series is a hard sell if you're going after those folks. At least during the IRL era, the series could play up the fact that it had some "Indy 500" drivers in the field, which played to a credibility factor with the wider public. Those of us on here know the series has some serious wheelmen. But to get everyone else to plunk down $30 to see what to them are no-name drivers, running a series they may know nothing about, well, that's not an easy task.
Hopefully the great finish yesterday will be enough of a springboard for this to not be a "one and done" deal.
