Brandon Petty won several races running the cushion, and had a USAC race slip away after dominating with a combination of running the top and bottom. The modified and street stock races were even better. Doug St. Myers and Terry Hull running the bottom against Elvin Hershberger and Scott Orr on the cushion in the modifieds. James Headley and Bill Bradley running the tires on the inside against Kelly Mahoney and Greg Pierson rim riding the outside. There were many outstanding races during those years that really put Gas City on the map.
