2012 has been another good year of racing for me. I gave up counting the races I go to,but a good guess is between 75 and 100.I figure thats pretty good for a guy that also works 5 days a week too.Sometimes I just dont get as much sleep.
It seems weird to not see Aero multiple times every weekend this year. I kidded him about taking Morty's place as IOW Unofficial "Missing fan of the year" He claimed to have been at 25 races this year, but I didnt see him 25 times this summer!
The best social scene in Indiana on any given weekend during the summer is at Bob & Monica's Motorhome.
I was hoping the LPS Thursday night races would be a hit at the box office. Its an easy commute for me.
It feels strange sitting home on Sunday nights in August when you'd rather be at Kokomo Speedway.
Years ago I used to carefully plan out "doubles" going to 2 races in one day. This year I didnt plan any,but made it to 2 of them. First was The Speedrome World Figure 8 race to Putnamville, and the 2nd was Little Belleville to Tri City for 2 midget races in one night. Both times I had only planned one 1 race that night, but when opportunity knocks....answer the door!
I stopped in to Eagle Raceway on my way from McCool Junction to US 36 and wished they had a midget race there. I might have to go there next year for the USAC sprint race.
The Kokomo Smackdown was my most anticipated race of the season, and it didnt let me down. Its already my most anticipated race for 2013.
Had a good time at the July 3rd race at Waynesfield. They had like 48 winged 360s,31 or so non wing 410s and a ton of modifieds, but it was good racing all night, and I'll be back next year.
I sometimes wonder why more tracks dont run around the 4th of July. It always used to be one of the larger crowds of the season at my home track when I was growing up.
I miss the Focus,Kenyon and regional midget shows at Mt Lawn, and Anderson.Cheap entertainment for a Wednesday night.
I miss going to Van Craft on Gasoline Alley and talking racing with Van (RIP) and watching him hammer sheets of aluminum into Kurtis midget bodies. Fascinating to watch. You also never knew who would be walking thru his door for well known racing personalities.
If you werent at the Arnie Knepper memorial race this year, you missed watching a great drive from Rico Abreau who spun out while leading to restart at the rear and charge thru for the win.
Likewise watching Daron Clayton and Chase Stockon come from the back to the front at Haubstadt in September. The race of the year for me.
I think Morty is a closet Late Model fan. At the first POWRi midget race at Little Belleville,it was run with Late Models, and I have always been curious just HOW they run on such a small track. Morty was filling me in with so much Late Model Trivia,I felt I was sitting next to the LM version of Kevin Eckert!I left there a lot smarter than when I went in.
I find there are a lot of people that just look at IOW and never post anything here though.
I hope they have a few non wing races at North Vernon next year.
Same with Danville Illinois.
Getting to new tracks is more difficult when you only go to watch non wing sprints or midgets. I got to 5 new tracks this year though,so I thought it was a pretty good year.
Bubba Raceway Park in Florida,Brownstown Illinois,Peoria Illinois, Clay County Illinois, and Beloit Kansas.
I'm glad they had another "reunion" at Jungle Park Speedway this year. Its cool going there and walking around the place and wondering what the racing was like there years ago.
Feel free to add in your own stuff to the list............
