I'm not American, I'm Canadian but RB's firing has made me very sad. I've always been an Indy Car fan, but only on ovals. Road racing is OK but street course racing isn't racing to me. I've spent a fair bit of time on forums and message boards today trying to get a grasp on the views of as many fans as possible. A lot of people are really upset about Randy being fired.INDYCAR fans seem to feel cheated from what I've been reading. Me too.
I try however to always look for a bright side in bad situations. So here's a thought I've had about Randy's firing. With so many fans really angry and threatening to walk away from INDYCAR over what happened yesterday I think there's a plus in this situation for the open wheel short tracks and series. Now, or very quickly would be the time for the short tracks/series operators/promoters to woo the disgruntled INDYCAR fans. Embarking on fan attraction campaigns (using social media/track/series websites) could possibly swing over a lot of the fans who are fed up with INDYCAR. Let's face it, these fans have disposable income, are looking for great entertainment and love open wheel racing. So if they're too pissed off to care anymore to go to an INDYCAR race in 2013 then let these fans know how much they'd be appreciated at a sprint car or midget race (or something else i.e. Silver Crown race). In my opinion INDYCAR stuck a knife in itself yesterday. The "grassroots" open wheel world can now gain more fans if it can figure out how to twist it. Apparently Randy Bernard had a blast when he went to Kokomo.
