I like Maxim. J&J build very nice cars. The former JEI now GF1 and A.R.T. cars are very nice but I don't know how well they'll translate to non-wing. That's a question for someone smarter than me. Not a fan of Triple X but to each his own. I personally always looked at Stealth as a non-wing car and I think they were bought by Spike. Could be wrong. Look for a car with the arm safety cages. Several guys run a left side but not a right side. Levi Jones appears to run one this year from the looks of the right side arm guard being flared out. It's obviously safer but also provides you more elbow room if you've got broad shoulders. Here's a picture of it. http://www.maxchevy.com/news/2012/Images/07/LeviJones-sprintweek-champ.jpg
I don't think it matters as much with a non-wing car but lots of wing guys run them with slip tubes so it can't bind the chassis. I'm 6'3" so I run a Maxim Big Boy Tall Cage car. Big boy means the A-Frane is moved back to the lateral bar in front of the tail tank for more leg room. I don't know if the new Maxim Big Max has the A-frame moved back but that's something to look for if that's important to you.
