I got a new HT2 today and it was $222 and change with tax. I have not used my durometer to check it yet, but Hoosier said it is at least 10 points softer than the DT3. They said it is comparable to the hardness of a D15. If that is the case, then why did Hoosier make a new tire? Why not just make the 15s, the rule at area tracks, USAC, or MSCS?

Tire compound isn't the whole story in making a tire.
Sidewall construction, footprint width, natural or synthetic rubber, etc all play an intricate part in what makes a new tire different than an existing one.
