Lightning Sprint Rules
YOU MUST CLAIM WHAT SERIES YOU NORMALLY RACE WITH
we are trying to make the rules as close to each one of your own series and provide you with a set of rules that you can race each other in a competitive manner... the following rules for this years winter nationals has a few of every series in the US...so there will be some GIVE and some TAKE simple and to the point...I don't want you to come to Florida and think we are going to tear your engine down but I do want each and everyone of you to feel you have as good of a shot as the next guy but we will be looking for the person-s that will blantly want to cheat....so if it not allowed in YOUR series Don't do it...we will have all the rules from every series but here are the rules we fill everyone can live with.....
MOTOR:
- Four (4) cylinder, four (4) cycle motorcycle engine only. STOCK bore and stroke."no titanum parts anywhere" unless they are STOCK OEM....we will tech Bore and Stroke
- Electric self starting, no push starting allowed and must be able crank up and drive off under on power
- Carb. or Fuel Injected. Alcohol conversions allowed.
- Six (6) inch offset-measured C/L of motor and C/L of frame.
- 1206cc maximum Chain Driven, 1352cc with a quick change (midget/TQ style rearend MUST BE SELF STARTING AND HAVE A CLUTCH....motors will be teched
- No in cockpit IGNITION adjustments .... shocks and wing adjustments OK
CHASSIS:
- Roll cage - minimum 1 1/4 inch OD X .095 wall 4130n tubing.
- Wheelbase: Min. 63 inches - Max. 72 inches.
- Car to resemble a sprint car, particularly the hood and tail NO SQUARE TAILS.
- UP-RIGHT CARS ONLY....Drivers feet required to be behind the motor.
- Hydraulic brakes capable of sliding rear wheels required.
- Fuel tank must be well secured behind the driver and under the body tail piece. (bladder's highly recommended) If you have a Bladder tail tank it MUST HAVE A BLADDER...Metal and aluminum tanks are allowed only if they are equipted with a bladder. You must have "A" or "G" with engine size on both sides of the tank at the fill so we know what you should weight to speed up the weighting process after each race and quailifing...ALL FUEL TANKS, FUEL CELLS, BLADDERS OR PLASTIC TANKS MUST BE CONSTRUCTED AND SUPPORTED IN A MANNER TO AVOID RUPTURE OR BREAKAGE....A TRADITION FUEL TANK THAT EXTENDS BEYOND THE REAR TORSION TUBES MUST CONTAIN A FABRIC BLADDER AND MEET SPI 28.2
- Bumpers and nerf bars required. Nerf bars cannot be wider than the tires.
- Gasoline/Alcohol/E-85 fuel only. Pump gas 93 octane max. No oxygen booster. Top end oil additives allowed.
- Chain must be properly guarded and if you run a torque tube for the drive line it MUST have a hoop to protect the driver and fuel tank.
- Wheels must be 13 inches only, unless you run a 600/750cc UP-RIGHT ONLY then you are allowed to run 10" tires and wheels.....Tires may be of any make Right Rear MUST punch 40 on the durometer!!!!
- Top wing not to exceed 16 square feet, Nose wings acceptable.
WEIGHT:
THIS COMES AFTER WE HAVE LOOKED AT EVERY LIGHTNING SPRINT WEIGHT RULE OUT THERE FOR 2011-12 everything is done in 25# incurments....this is so the small drivers and the large drivers will be competative with each other...as far as the gas and alcohol difference I took an average of each organizations rules to come up with a happy median for everyone.... Remember this is from each of your series from ALL OVER THE US ...NOT JUST 1 SERIES....I understand there is no document evidience to support that alcohol has a suffincuient advantage...but I am trying to come up with a weight rule that EVERYBODY CAN LIVE WITH when they come to Florida...I have to look at the WHOLE PICTURE and not just 1...
- Cars using alcohol/E-85 must weigh a min. of...... CARS ON GAS SUBTRACT 25 POUNDS
- 1000cc Meth/E-85 950 lbs. with driver for winged events, 925 lbs. for non-winged... GAS -25#
- 1206cc Meth/E-85 975 lbs. with driver for winged events, 950 lbs. for non-winged...GAS -25#
- 1352cc/with quick change Meth/E-85 1075 lbs. with driver for winged events, 1050 lbs. for non-winged....GAS -25#
- 600/750cc UPRIGHT cars GAS or Meth/E-85 min. weight with driver is 850 lbs. for winged and 825 lbs for non-winged
- We will check the weights to make sure they are safely placed attached to the car. You must have them bolted to the chassis, you CANNOT use hose clamps/plastic ties or tape to hold them on the car. You will be inspected and must be painted white and have your # CLEARLY on each piece of weight
NOTE: THE DIRECTOR RESERVES THE RIGHT TO MAKE DECISIONS IN THE EVENT OF ANY OUT OF THE ORDINARY OR UNUSUAL SITUATIONS OR OCCURRENCES.
Wheels & Tires:
- Wheels must be 13” diameter only unless you run a 600/750cc then you are allowed to run 10" tires and wheels....13" Tires are to be a minimum 62” circumference and a maximum of 84” and 10" must be between 58" and 69"
- Tires may be of any make and Right Rear MUST punch 40 on the durometer!!!!
SAFETY:
- 2004 or newer Snell approved full face helmet required with date and SPI rating
- Approved fire suit and gloves required with date and SPI rating
- Three (3) inch lap with sub belt and shoulder harness required. Belts must not be over 3 years old with date and SPI rating
- Arm restraints, racing shoes and neck collars required.
- Fire extinguisher MANDATORY for each car in the pit area.
- Kill switch MANDATORY within drivers reach with arm restraints on.
- Safety director reserves the right to disqualify any car judged to be unsafe until corrections are complete.
- RACECIEVERS are MANDATORY . NO PIT communication allowed.
FOR THE 600 MICRO RULES WE HAVE DECIDED TO USE THE SAME RULES THAT THE FMSA USES
2012 600 NON WING Winternationals Tech Rules: 600cc - 750cc
RULES FOR ALL THE ASSOCIATIONS TO RACE TOGETHER!!
- Motor: Must be 600cc –619cc, or 636-750cc, Aftermarket Parts OK! Fuel: Alcohol, or Race Gas OK!
- Fuel Injection OK! Weight: w/Driver-600-619cc- 750lbs., 636cc-750cc- 800lbs.
- Right Rear Tire (Must Read 50 Durometer Before and After Each Event)
- In-Cockpit Adjustments Ok!!!!! No Wheel Speed Sensors!!!! No Traction-Controlled Devices Allowed!!! No Nitrous, Turbos, or Superchargers!!!!!
- All Cars / Drivers will be checked for Safety Equipment to Race!!!!! If Car is Unsafe - No Race!
- SSLS Officials will also check bore and stroke of motor, Guaranteed.
- Race Receivers are a must in all SSLS Events.
