If you were to ask who is the most important person at a race track, you would invariably get many different answers based on perspective and circumstances. Some would say the flagman. A car owner who has just been protested might say the tech guy. A driver trapped in a burning car would more than likely say anybody with a fire extinguisher. A loyal fan who has to miss a night would probably say the track videographer! But for somebody who is a casual fan, or perhaps has never been to a race before, the 'one' person who may have the greatest impact on whether they enjoy themselves just could be the announcer. And IMO that 'one' person should be two. I've heard MANY different folks perform the PA duties through the years. Most of them I would rate as good to very good with a couple below average and a few that were great. However, the ones that I thought were best were some of those that worked in pairs. I guess the trick is getting two that work well together and at least seem to respect each other. When a track or series gets the right people in the booth, it certainly adds to my enjoyment of the event.
