Salem is one of those rare communities that has two race tracks. Thunder Valley is actually in the city of Salem (600 Market Street) adjacent to the county fairgrounds. Its a quarter-mile dirt with grandstands on the side of a hill. The track sits down in a small valley. It is very similar to the Decatur County Fairgrounds in Greensburg, Ind. It's great for TQs and mini sprints. There have been a couple of times where I left the high bank and driven across town in time to catch the feature for a UMRA show.
Good to see the memorial races. All contributed greatly to the sport and UMRA.
One question, in the past the Greensburg race in September was the Dwenger Memorial -- in honor of Dick, who won two driving titles, and his son Larry, who won five car owner championships in six years. Both died within a month of each other in early 1994. The schedule lists the July race as the Dick Dwenger Memorial. Is that intended to be the Dwenger Memorial and was just mislabled, the same as Salem Speedway instead of Thunder Valley?
