After talking to the ISP DOT lady at the Seymour, IN weight scales she informed me that if the total truck and trailer weight was over 10,001 lbs then I had to have DOT #s and vehicle inspection. She also said if I travel over 115 miles from the base of operation then I had to provide a log book. If the truck and trailer weight is over 26,001 lbs then the driver has to have a CDL. She said they go by the GVW marked on the vehicle and they don't care if you have it marked private coach, not for hire, or registered RV. If you are towing something that you make money from then you meet the criteria for the DOT rules.
